 30 And behold, thou wilt remember the apoor, and bconsecrate of thy properties for their csupport that which thou hast to impart unto them, with a covenant and a deed which cannot be broken.

  20  She stretcheth out her hand to the apoor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

  26  And now, for the sake of these things which I have spoken unto you—that is, for the sake of retaining a remission of your sins from day to day, that ye may walk guiltless before God—I would that ye should impart of your substance to the poor, every man according to that which he hath, such as feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and administering to their relief, both spiritually and temporally, according to their wants.

  27  And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the bpoor, and the needy, and the sick, and the afflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet they were neat and comely.

  12  And it was because of the pride of their hearts, because of their exceeding riches, yea, it was because of their oppression to the cpoor, withholding their food from the hungry, withholding their clothing from the naked, and smiting their humble brethren upon the cheek, making a mock of that which was sacred, denying the spirit of prophecy and of revelation, murdering, plundering, lying, stealing, committing adultery, rising up in great contentions, and deserting away into the land of Nephi, among the Lamanites—

  13  Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: for I will make thine horn iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I will bconsecrate their gain unto the Lord, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth.

  15  Thus it cometh out of the church, for according to the alaw every man that cometh up to Zion must lay all things before the bishop in Zion.

  3  It is contrary to the will and commandment of God that those who receive not their inheritance by bconsecration, agreeable to his law, which he has given, that he may tithe his people, to prepare them against the day of vengeance and burning, should have their names enrolled with the people of God.

  10  And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the bpoor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

  22  Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the apoor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

  2  For it must needs be that they be organized according to my blaws; if otherwise, they will be cut off.

  15  And thus I grant unto this people a privilege of organizing themselves according to my alaws.

  3  For verily I say unto you, the time has come, and is now at hand; and behold, and lo, it must needs be that there be an organization of my people, in regulating and establishing the affairs of the storehouse for the cpoor of my people, both in this place and in the land of Zion—

  18  And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord's storehouse, to become the common fproperty of the whole church—

  6  And the storehouse shall be kept by the consecrations of the church; and widows and orphans shall be provided for, as also the bpoor. Amen.

  1  It is the duty of the Lord's clerk, whom he has appointed, to keep a history, and a general church record of all things that transpire in Zion, and of all those who cconsecrate properties, and receive inheritances legally from the bishop;

  18  Therefore, if any man shall take of the abundance which I have made, and impart not his portion, according to the blaw of my gospel, unto the poor and the needy, he shall, with the wicked, lift up his eyes in hell, being in torment.

  3  But behold, they have not learned to be obedient to the things which I required at their hands, but are full of all manner of evil, and do not aimpart of their substance, as becometh saints, to the poor and afflicted among them;

  29  For it is my will that these lands should be purchased; and after they are purchased that my saints should possess them according to the alaws of aconsecration which I have given.

  3  And this shall be the beginning of the atithing of my people.
