18  ^aJudges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.

  40  And even the bishop, who is a ^bjudge, and his counselors, if they are not faithful in their stewardships shall be condemned, and others shall be planted in their stead.

  72  And also to be a ^ajudge in Israel, to do the business of the church, to sit in judgment upon transgressors upon testimony as it shall be laid before him according to the laws, by the assistance of his counselors, whom he has chosen or will choose among the elders of the church.

  9  And again, I have called my servant Edward Partridge; and I give a commandment, that he should be appointed by the voice of the church, and ordained a bishop unto the church, to leave his merchandise and to ^cspend all his time in the labors of the church;

  1  Hearken unto me, saith the Lord your God, and I will speak unto my servant Edward Partridge, and give unto him directions; for it must needs be that he receive directions how to organize this people.

  7  And let my servant Edward Partridge stand in the office to which I have appointed him, and ^cdivide unto the saints their inheritance, even as I have commanded; and also those whom he has appointed to assist him.
