20  For if after they have ^aescaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

  17  And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when ^aaffliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
